Database work is going on, which sometimes means reboots. When this happens:
The database completely goes away for somewhere between 30 seconds and a minute. After it comes back up, it won’t answer the web servers for another minute or two while it familiarizes itself with our data.

The last time we ran maintenance routines things didn’t complete properly. So far this morning things are slow, so we’re running the process again.
We started around 4:30am Eastern Standard Time. Expect things to take a total of two to three hours. Edited to add: it’s taking longer than I expected. We’ll be back soon.

Got in touch with a consultant and he recommended working directly with the files on disk, rather than through the database server.
Working that solution now, so THR’s web servers can’t connect to the database server and I’m not sure what message you’re seeing.
Either this will work, or I’ll restore from backup.
